Marantz cd-65 question.

I just purchased a marantz cd-65 second hand for a good price.
Just have a few questions about the connections on the rear.
It has four yellow sockets on the rear marked Easy and Remote.
I assume 2 for easy bus and 2 for Remote bus. Can someone please explain
what they are and what the difference is? I assume I use the Remote bus
connector when I want to connect it to my existing marantz amplifier

Exactly right, just a proprietary i/o interface.

Thanks. But I'm having no luck getting the rermote to work after hooking up
the Remote bus In to the Remote out on the marantz Amp.

I've tried the origional marantz and two seperate programmable learning
remotes one sony and the other marantz. without getting any to responce from
the cd player.(using the Marantz cd codes provided in the manuals.

If I understand it correctly, there should be (at least on most Marantz
units), a switch on the back of the CD65 which says Internal or
External. Set it to Ext, make sure the 2 rca cables are set in a loop
(in to out and out to in), then it should just work (according to my
SR4500 manual). I would assume you use the remote bus, but you would
have to check the CD65 manual (or just try the easy bus, if it does not
work). Don't forget you need to point the remote at the Amp, not the CD
player. Also you do not have to program the remote at all. I assume it
should be set on it's default, or it may just be irrelevant. Of course,
if you are trying to program the remote then the remote bus is useless
to you.

I'm not trying to program the remote. I would of assumed that using a pre
programmed remote and selecting the appropriate supplied code for Marantz CD
would be sufficient.

And I have no idea what the difference is between the Easy and Remote Bus
Connections. If somone could explain the difference.

As for Mrantz models.

They seemed to have two cd-65 models. Ie one from late 80's and the new one
from late mid 90s (like a lot of there other models from the 80's and 90's)

The one I have has no switch on the rear for remote control.(internal and
external) so I can only coneect a cable from the remote bus in or out of the
amplifier and connect it to either the easy or remote connector on the
cd-65.

My SR4500 only has one called remote control, specifically. It is
possible Marantz changed the way the bus works, since the 80's. Alot of
gear like Denon etc have their own proprietary remote interfaces, that
started around that period. If the CD65's is obsolete you may be shit
out of luck, unfortunately. My amp lists 3 codes for Marantz cd players,
but does not list models. Note, the Philips units use the same codes.

Probably the MKII, from the 90's. Yup, google shows a MKII model.

Reading a bit more in my manual, plug the out on the amp to the in on
the cdplayer. Don't bother hooking any other cables up. It is a serial
bus arrangement. The in is designed to control the unit, in the case of
my SR4500, if you are using it is a pre amp and want to control it from
a separate power amp. Goody, the coffee is kicking in. See how you go.

Also a quicky, all the gear shown in the sr4500 manual has an external
switch in the diagrams.

Older marantz equipment do not have a switch. I remember having a marantz
tape drive from about 10 years ago. Never came with its own remote, Just
chaned the remote bus connections together and everything was controlled
fine by the revievers remote. If the origional device doesn't support a
remote then there is obviously no switch..

Still nobody has been able to explain the difference between the Easy and
Remote connections on the rear of the Cd player. I can try one of 4
connections, but without knowing exactly what each one does I'm not sure if
the connector im using is the right one.or not or what the specifics of the
connections are. All I know is the cd player works fine.

I actually have and still use a Marantz CC-65 which is the 5
disc changer version of your model. I even have the owners
manual *BUT* mine only has 2 RCA Orange coloured "Remote
IN/OUT" plugs. So I cannot shed any light on this for you
except to say that it is obvious that you have to use two
sets of the plugs. It appears from what you have said above
you are only trying to use 1 plug at a time. Have you tried
hooking up both sets and seeing what they do? I would
assume 1 set must work.

According to the Marantz manual I have, you only use one plug. Out of
amp, in to cd player. It is a serial bus so it works from out to in for
every device in the chain. The only reason to plug it into the in
socket, is to control the amp from an external device like a power amp.

If it doesn't work, I would say your buggered, protocols have probably
changed. Silly question, but what amp are we talking about? All the
modern Marantz Amps have downloadable manuals from their website. You
could e-mail Marantz directly, they usually only take a couple of days.

Anyway, I did a small diagram as per the SR4500 manual.

Thanks i'd say but without knowing the difference between the easy and

The amplifiers I'm talking about is a new SR7500 (2005) and an older SR-65
(1995) models. Both with the RC-5 Remote buss in/out sockets.
Since the cd player has the 4 connectors are all the rca sockets the same
color and they arn't even labled in/out. Its a bit difficult to know how
they work/are connected.

The 7500 should be the same as the 4500, so I guess if you have tried
all 4 sockets, then it isn't going to work. E-0mail Marantz is the only
answer I guess.
